As we close out a year of rootedness at the SCA, we eagerly anticipate fresh adventures, diverse experiences, and playful learning opportunities that we’ll see in 2024. Mr. Society of 23
Michigan-based artist Jeffrey Augustine Songco takes audiences on a behind the scenes tour of the competitive sport of beauty pageants; a culture that is both obviously strange and oddly familiar. Re-Wild
Grand Rapids-based multidisciplinary artist, Shannon Mack, will occupy our corridor for the entire year of 2024. Throughout this year, we’ll see her works change, grow, and share important messages through mixed-media. This Spring, we’ll explore the exhibition “Re-Wild” and what it means to be playfully connected to nature.

Creative Fellow: Julie Ganey
The SCA is proud to welcome non-traditional artists to our campus for a year-long experience with our Creative Fellow program. The program provides unique opportunities for the Fellow to collaborate with visual artists and performers, lead events for children and adults, and amplify SCA programming in unexpected ways. We’re so excited to welcome Julie Ganey in 2024.

Hempy Keyboard Series
The Hempy Keyboard Series returns to the SCA Lobby for an intimate and truly immersive experience for music lovers and piano enthusiasts. From classical to jazz, a specially curated lineup of professional pianists from around the country will enchant guests.

Art Out Loud featuring Mountainfilm on Tour

Adventure and art collide on the big screen and beyond at the annual Art Out Loud Festival here at the SCA. Through the power of film, music, food, and outdoor exploration we’ll take a deep dive into cultures and stories from around the globe. This immersive experience engages all senses and highlights the impact of artful collaboration.

Comedian Rhapsody – The Best of The Second City

Rooted in the groundbreaking improvisational games of Viola Spolin, The Second City opened its doors on a snowy Chicago night in December of 1959, and a comedy revolution began.The small cabaret theater has grown to become the most influential and prolific comedy empire in the world, developing an entirely unique way of creating art and fostering generation after generation of superstars.
The Second City, the world’s most influential name in comedy, is thrilled to return to the SCA with their newest revue, “Comedian Rhapsody,” a ground-breaking showcase of classic sketch comedy. This show, and the list of well known comedians, is 60 years in the making.

Gilmore Young Artist

NEW!: Side by Side Studio Family Programming

Join us for our first intergenerational program for Spring of 2024! Learn and get creative with your kids alongside our Creative Fellow, Julie Ganey, and corridor artist, Shannon Mack. Kids and their grown-ups will each learn a method of making art, separately, but side by side.

In Progress with Re-Wild

A FREE 3-week program inspired by the artwork of Grand Rapids artist Shannon Mack. Students will explore new ways to create using paint, collage, and printmaking with playful color palettes and a variety of processes. Artist will be on-site for one session to visit and share her techniques and methods for creating!
