Program Period: April 15 – May 17
Grades 3rd – 5th | 4 visits |  60 – 90 minute visits

Key Concepts & Ideas: mixed-media, personal voice, social emotional learning, abstraction, structured play, process & practice, visual communication.

Elementary students in this program will explore the playful possibilities of paint, mixed media, and up-cycled forms to create bold abstract artworks inspired by the work of Ann Arbor based artist, Hannah Burr. Students will be challenged to make thoughtful decisions and look at their work from a new perspective by deconstructing and re-assembling previously created paintings into abstract, mixed-media compositions. Through reflective writing, poetry, and other creative processes, students will approach abstract artwork playfully and meaningfully. Students will strengthen communication and creative problem solving skills, while gaining confidence in decision making and personal voice through the creation of artwork and experimentation with materials.

Classroom needs: Classrooms will need access to a sink, and space for artwork to dry overnight.
