What if art could serve as a bridge, bringing people from different walks of life together? What if it could surprise and delight you while also challenging you to see the familiar in new ways?
During our 20th Anniversary season, the SCA is producing a special outdoor installation that stitches together Saugatuck, Douglas, Holland, and Fennville - focusing on the unique spaces and places that are hallmarks of each community.
Create Community: Spaces for Discovery, designed by artists Jeremy Barnett and Jason Maracani, uses “everyday objects” (many found in our local environments) to call to mind our community’s deep environmental treasures like the river and lake, agricultural fields, woodlands, dunescapes, and more.
Meet The Artists
Jason and Jeremy began working together as scenic designers in the theatre. Their unconventional approach to storytelling led them to create sculpture-like sets that engage the imagination and embrace the audience as part of the theatrical event. After a number of years creating performance spaces out of simple, repeated objects, infused with light and color, the designers began experimenting with designing spaces outside of the theatre.
Their adventures carried them to interesting places around the world. From living in a cave in Spain to harvesting river cane in the Sierra Segura – Jeremy and Jason are constantly looking for ways to change perspectives, highlight natural beauty, and finding joy in unexpected locations.
