Saugatuck, MI – Saugatuck Center for the Arts opens the doors with a dynamic return to in-person theater for its 20th season. World-class performers bring incredible choreography, moving musical numbers, and hilarious anecdotes in two beloved Broadway musicals and two hot cabarets, right here in Saugatuck. Cue the lights and the band – the SCA stage is coming to life like never before.

Legally Blonde The Musical

June 24 – July 17

A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde. The musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances, the show takes you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with one of Broadway’s brightest heroines and her Chihuahua, Bruiser. Legally Blonde The Musical warms the heart by proving that self-discovery can be way too much fun and hilarious to boot.

Little Shop of Horrors

The world’s most ravenous plant returns in the deviously delicious Broadway smash musical, Little Shop of Horrors. Meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” after his coworker crush. The foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises Seymour unending fame and fortune as long as he keeps feeding it… blood. Over time Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out-of-this-world origins and intent on global domination – who will win the battle of “vines over matter”? Experience this cult favorite musical – and its electrifying 1960’s pop/rock score – as only Mason Street Warehouse can present it!

Song Diaries Live

MSW alumni Tony DeSare brings his popular “Song Diaries” to the SCA for one night only! Inspired by his expansive catalog of Sinatra standards, pop favorites, piano blockbusters and heartfelt originals, this new solo show will take you on a sweeping musical journey. Spanning the likes of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Bill Withers, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and more, DeSare puts a fresh spin on classic hits, playing with infectious joy and robust musicality.

From jazz clubs to Carnegie Hall to Las Vegas headlining with Don Rickles and major symphony orchestras, DeSare has brought his fresh take on old school class around the globe. Tony has three top ten Billboard jazz albums under his belt and has been featured on the CBS Early Show, NPR, A Prairie Home Companion, the Today Show and his music has been posted by social media celebrity juggernaut, George Takei. Tony has also collaborated with Youtube icons Postmodern Jukebox. He appeared on the SCA stage in both MSW productions of Our Sinatra.

This cabaret is Tony’s only scheduled Michigan appearance in ‘22 – don’t miss this very special evening.

Join Mason Street Warehouse veterans Tommy Vendafreddo and Marya Grandy as they return to the SCA stage! This power duo has been performing together since 2016, bringing their show to Uptown Underground and the Venus Cabaret in Chicago, as well as stages around the country. Marya was featured in the 2020 MSW review “Oh What a Night!”; Tommy served as musical director for MSW productions In The Heights, Just Too Big, and Legally Blonde.

Nothing says Michigan summer more than a FREE outdoor concert by Michigan-natives, The Accidentals, family-friendly activities, snacks, craft beverages, and a rocking, weekend-long party.

This June, we’re kicking off our 20th summer at the SCA with a big, bold, bright celebration of our colorful community at the 3rd annual Jump Into Summer Party on June 17 + 18. We’re packing Friday full of live music starting at 5:00 pm, and amping up until female-fronted, multi-instrumentalist power trio, The Accidentals hit the stage at 7:00 pm.

The party keeps GROWING on Saturday, June 18 with an exhibition celebration, family-centered activities and games, community partners, and MORE

“We’re thrilled to welcome guests and actors back for in-person performances this summer,” said SCA Executive Director Kristin Armstrong. “We’ve pulled out all the stops for our 20th Anniversary season, serving up two large musicals. And it’s so special welcoming Tony DeSare back to Saugatuck. Tony is playing with Symphonies across the country – having him at the SCA for an intimate solo show will be one of the highlights of the year.”

SCA Artistic Director Kurt Stamm says, “the talent that will be at the SCA this summer is world class. We are so fortunate to get some of the best actors, singers, and dancers to come and share their talents with us.” Stamm auditioned more than 1,200 actors from around the country plus in-person student auditions at select Michigan universities, winnowing the talent pool down to 29 actors in the two productions.
