About The Program

Come explore the outdoors with creative eyes! Focused on the intersections of art, science, and play, young explorers will use art as a means of inquiry into the natural world, where the artistic process mirrors the scientific method of questioning, experimenting, and evaluating. Take the time to see the beauty and creativity abounding in every aspect of our lives, through hands-on-making, creating, and exploring. You’ll meet professional artists and naturalists, and build connections with the wonders of our amazing world. Join local illustrator Stephanie Ellis at the Outdoor Discovery Center to create artwork from organic materials to tell a story! Get inspired by our local ecologies through exploring the ODC’s expansive trail system and learning about histories of narrative art. Young storytellers will incorporate hand-drawn illustrations with foraged natural materials into a whimsical collage. What story will you tell?

Stephanie Ellis

Stephanie Ellis is an illustrator inspired by the “natural world, storytelling, and her midwest upbringing”. Her work combines familiar flora and fauna with fantastical characters to create extraordinary narratives. Based in Grand Rapids, Stephanie derives inspiration from local ecosystems and Michigan wildlife. You can find Stephanie at her website and on her instagram.

Outdoor Discovery Center

The Outdoor Discovery Center is advancing outdoor education and conservation in West Michigan. Their inquiry-based style of programming allows students to learn about and experience nature and culture in a hands-on manner with offerings for all ages and audiences.

This offering will be hosted at the Outdoor Discovery Center’s campus: 4214 56th St, Holland, MI 49423. Pick up and drop off will occur in front of the Visitor Center by the main entrance
