About The Program

June is in full bloom! Hop on your bike and take the scenic route in Saugatuck and Douglas as we explore all of the natural gardens and beauty the lakeshore community has to offer. Join Velo Kids in the morning for trips and tours to the best outdoor spots from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, and spend the afternoons with SCA creating artwork that’s inspired by your travels and the incredible gardens all around us from 12:00 – 4:00 pm.

In the morning with Velo Kids, you’ll pedal to explore local bike paths and discover places like Wick’s Park, Village Square Park, Mount Baldhead Park, Douglas Beach and more!  Learn how to bike safely and bike smart around town and develop bike repair and maintenance skills. Learn and practice stewardship for our trails, parks and our community while you meet new friends, get active, and have fun in the great outdoors!

When you return to the SCA, you’ll spend the afternoons creating art inspired by petals and blooms! Dig in the dirt with Scotty Jacobs, professional garden designer, to create living, blooming art. Paint the flowers of the SCA garden with Holland-based artist, Bryanna Manning. Create abstract art with natural materials and pigments with Kalamazoo based interdisciplinary artist, Taylor Scamehorn, and of course–decorate your bike and pedal away in style!

Pick-up and drop-off is at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts under the pavilion. Campers must bring their own bicycles to attend. Bike trips are weather permitting. Campers must bring their own morning snack, sack lunch, helmet and gear, water bottle, and come wearing close-toed shoes. Campers must be able to ride 3-5 miles comfortably and be independent on two wheels (no training wheels). Camper bikes must be functioning with brakes that work and possibly gears.
