Paloma Núñez-Regueiro

Our summer exhibition artist, Paloma is a printmaker and a maker of things who enjoys drawing, painting, mixed media, and fibers. Born in Lima, Peru to a mother who is Mexican and a father who is Chinese-Peruvian, she moved to Mexico because of the guerrilla wars in Peru when she was 9. In Mexico she grew up in close proximity to her aunt, who was a stained glass artist. Her aunt always told her she was an artist, and that is how Paloma began dreaming of making art for a living.

Paloma attended art college in Mexico at Facultad de Artes Plásticas (College of Arts) in Xalapa, Veracruz. This was where she was first introduced to printmaking. She later earned her BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a double major in painting and printmaking.

Paloma’s work is closely related to her experiences of living abroad– the impermanence, the precarious construction of one’s present and even less of the future. It’s about starting over with whatever is at hand, and about the rootlessness of the ones who move from place to place.
