About this Class

Get out and explore this week of camp as we take the SCA out and about! Explore art galleries and meet professional artists in downtown Saugatuck and find inspiration for your own playful clay creations back in the studio. Take a trip to the beach to build sand sculptures with sandcastle creator, Bryan Obermeyer. Visit 8th Day Farm in Holland with professional food gardener, Jenny Bongiorno and make some delicious and artful edible creations. Create screenprints inspired by the outdoors and explore the SCA garden. All week we’ll discover different ways to play outdoors and everything we create will be outside the lines!

Artist info

Bryan Obermeyer

Bryan competed as an Advanced Amateur at the Blue Water SandFest for 5 years. After taking home silver medals in 2015 and 2016, and in 2017, he became the “Advanced Amateur Michigan State Champion” and was asked to move to the Masters Level. Bryan got his start in 2007 at the Grand Haven Sand Sculpting contest with his wife and 3 girls. From that 1st year he was hooked. As his girls grew up, he kept playing in the sand. It’s the medium that attracts him to sand sculpting. Pushing the limits of fragile sand. A temporary art that when completed, dries up and falls apart leaving nothing but memories. Bryan is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and started sculpting in 2007.

Artist info

Blake Johnson

I am an illustrator and commercial artist from Holland, Michigan. My work - while stylistically varied - is often playful, vibrant, and influenced by the color constraints of screen printing. I love art as a means for interpersonal connection and for the ways it helps shape our perceptions of a place.
