Hyemin Kim

Our afternoon with Hyemin Kim will explore two classic musicians, Schubert and Liszt: From Sorrow to Transcendence. The works we will hear convey a profound message of finding peace beyond suffering, with nature acting as both witness and guide to that transcendence. Franz Liszt admired Schubert’s art songs, and he wrote a lot of piano transcriptions based on Schubert’s song cycle. Both pieces you will hear explore deep themes of grief, inner turmoil, death, but also transcendence and how nature is a comforting and eternal presence.
