The Artist

Ruth Crowe

“I graduated from college in 1982 with a degree in Art Education but I had no desire to teach art at the high school level … so I proceeded to do everything but art. I was briefly in the US Army and a police officer with the LAPD. But I spent the majority of my adult life as a collegiate softball coach. It was only after being fired in 2005 that I was forced to figure out what to do with my life. I created a unique product (custom designed sports awards) and started selling to colleges and universities. After nearly a decade running my own business, I knew it was time to start creating art for myself and not other people. I pivoted, and have now been a full-time artist since 2014. It took me a long time to get back to my purpose in life … My art, like me, is a work in progress.”
