SCA

Welcome summer with us

Friday June 9 5:00 - 10:00 pm

Grounded in the Art Coast culture – Jump into Summer highlights the things that make our little corner of the globe so creatively intriguing. This celebration welcomes in another incredible Michigan summer with big entertainment, bold imagination, and buckets of joy. Doors open at 5:00 pm and hands-on activities begin at the SCA’s new mobile art truck The WiP. Get your dancing shoes on because the stage will be rocking all night long with incredible musicians including headliner Michigander, fusing indie rock and pop into his own unique sound.

THANK YOU!
Thanks to everyone for jumping into summer with us.

The Music

Buzzworthy indie rock artist Michigander will blow open the doors to the sunshine season in Michigan with the headlining performance at Jump into Summer. Warming up the stage for Michigander (and warming up the dance floor for YOU) will be Nashville-based Abby Holliday. Both performers bring infectious energy that will bring you out of your seat to dance the night away!

The Food

Everyone knows that you can’t dance all night on an empty stomach. That’s why we’re providing tons of incredible options to fuel your body to get moving! From tacos to sweet treats – we’ve got just the thing you’re craving.

The Bar

Need to loosen up a little before you hit the dance floor? No worry – we’ve got that covered too. A full cash bar will be open and slinging your favorite beers, wines, and cocktails all night long. We’re getting creative behind the bar too – check out our Jump inspired specialty cocktails.

The Fun

Join the SCA education team at The WiP for free hands-on projects for all ages with professional artists! Plus, join us for the debut of the new Outdoor Discovery Center community-wide rainwater recycling program.

The Art

It wouldn’t be an SCA party without meet and greet opportunities with professional artists.

The two tracks usher in a new chapter for Michigander, whose 2021 critically lauded EP, Everything Will Be Ok Eventually (C3 Records), elevated his growing career via the Top 5 Triple A radio hit “Let Down” and Top 10 Triple A radio hit “Better.” Tracks from the collection have received immense support across DSPs, with featured placements on key playlists from Apple Music (New Music Daily, ALT CTRL), Spotify (The New Alt, New Music Friday), Pandora (ALT Select Radio), and Amazon Music (Fresh Indie), as well as radio airplay and spins on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation and The Spectrum. Named one of TuneCore’s Top 10 Rock/Alt Artists for 2021, Michigander delivers elevated and eloquent songcraft, uplifting instrumentation, and plainspoken heartland storytelling punctuated by alternative flare. Since 2014, the now Nashville-based singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist has garnered the acclaim of NPR, Paste, SPIN, Forbes, BrooklynVegan, Guitar World, KCRW and many more, in addition to over 50 million career streams globally. In 2016, his independent debut single “Nineties” achieved viral success, claiming real estate on multiple major Spotify playlists. Michigander’s first two EPs, Midland [2018] and Where Do We Go From Here [2019], have become fan favorites, with the latter’s standout single “Misery” eclipsing 10 million streams and earning Michigander his first Triple A radio hit. On the road, Singer and his band have shared the stage with everyone from Manchester Orchestra, Band of Horses and The Lumineers to Hippo Campus, Mt. Joy and Silversun Pickups, and graced the stages of such marquee festivals as Lollapalooza, Electric Forest, Summerfest, Shaky Knees and more. More from Michigander coming soon!

Paloma Núñez-Regueiro: To Practice Taking Root

To Practice Taking Root by artist Paloma Núñez-Regueiro is a collection of works curated for the Saugatuck Center for the Arts summer program. Inspired by her childhood in Peru, Paloma’s intention is to offer a cohesive collection of artwork that shines a light on the struggles of minorities in our communities. Her works take on four different formats – 2D, 3D, installation, and auditory.

In addition, you’ll be able to bring Paloma’s work home with you. Printmaking pieces such as Yogi-Luchadores and embroidered Frida dolls, stickets, postcards, and more will be available for purchase at her pop-up shop during Jump into Summer!

Sayde Laine Anderson: Of Plants and Place

Inspired by a childhood spent in the foothills of Colorado, Sayde Laine Anderson is a fiber artist, community builder, and maker working across disciplines to explore environmental and social issues. Rethinking the relationship between art, sustainability, and the land – Sayde’s work is a playful experiment in ode to her early journeys.
