About The Program

Learn drawing and art-making techniques using willow, compressed, and powdered charcoal! Make art that explores our roots with this moody medium made from burned plant matter. Create charcoal transfers and bold, layered mixed-media art pieces. Paint with liquid charcoal and create gesture drawings from life. Get out and explore the SCA garden and market to draw and find inspiration. Branch out and get wildly creative with this versatile and dark medium. A healthy snack provided.

Meg Shoup

Meg is the Arts Outreach Educator at the SCA where she teaches and coordinates adult and children’s programs. She holds a BFA in Art Education from Kendall College of Art and Design and has spent the last decade teaching and leading art programs for both youth and adults. In her personal work, she enjoys working with charcoal, printmaking, and mixed-media.
