About The Program
Join Saugatuck Center for Arts for this special series inspired by the artwork of Grand Rapids artist, Shannon Mack. In 2024, SCA’s entire year of programming is focused on PLAY! In this FREE program, students will be challenged to approach familiar materials in imaginative new ways.
Students will learn to create using paint, collage, and printmaking. Inspired by Shannon’s playful color palette and process, students will create abstract paintings that focus on experimentation with materials, utilize vibrant colors, and expressive shapes and lines. During one special session, Shannon Mack will be on-site to visit and share her techniques and methods for creating more playfully! This 3-week program is led by SCA’s Arts Outreach Educator, Meg Shoup.
Registration is required.
Shannon Mack
Shannon Mack is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She describes the origins of her work being derived from “of-the-moment” presence, in effect, leaving behind time capsules of the human experience. The layers that exist within her work are attempts to meet the moment with sincerity, each a foundation for the next, until a resolve is revealed. She is compelled by the time and labor invested in a “still” image, therefore making it an artifact in its own right; evidence of conscious and unconscious movements converging in a single tangible place.
