About The Program

Come explore the outdoors with creative eyes. Dive into the intricate world of trees, soil, critters, patterns in nature, and more. We will meet at the Outdoor Discovery Center where we will explore and create artwork based on what we’ve learned. You’ll meet professional artists and naturalists, and make connections between art and the outdoors that are bound to spark your curiosity about the world around you. Dress for a mess and prepare for adventures!

Join local artist Megan Williams for a morning of natural dyeing! Working specifically with marigolds and indigo to create vibrant yellows and deep blues, Williams will lead campers through the practice of extracting pigment from plants to create dye. Campers will learn about the long history of dyeing with plant-based pigments and explore how modern-day artists use this technique in their work. Using the handmade dyes, resist techniques, and their own imagination, campers will dye their own textiles to take home!
