Creativity Revealed: Ruben Aguirre & Sam Kirk

Join guest host Dakota Shayne, a curator and conceptual artist based in Detroit and Saugatuck. Dakota will lead an engaging discussion with our 2017 Artist in Residence: Rubén Aguirre and his fellow "Stories of Us" Exhibition Artist Sam Kirk. 

Rubén Aguirre is a Chicago-based painter who has transitioned from graffiti artist to abstract painter/contemporary muralist. He has produced a number of murals in the Chicago area, New York, Berlin, Mexico DF, Guadalajara, Memphis, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Denver, Amsterdam, San Juan, Aguadilla and recently Brazil.  His work is an intersection of abstract graffiti, design, and contemporary muralism.

Sam Kirk also creates paintings and murals, using art to provoke people to feel, see or understand things differently. Recognized for her public art and solo shows in Chicago, Sam has exhibited in New York, Miami, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. She was recently selected to design the Chicago Made space during the 2015 SXSW conference, won the Curator’s Choice award for the 2014 Redbull Curates Chicago contest and, exhibited at Scope art fair in December 2014. She has been commissioned by Guinness, Smirnoff, Ciroc, Rolling Stone Magazine and Proctor & Gamble.
